Father panics as SUV is stolen Woman takes vehicle with infant inside
A trip to return a DVD rental left a Las Vegas father with the worry of a lifetime Thursday morning when a woman stole the vehicle carrying his infant son. The man, who was not identified by police, stopped in front of the Albertson's at 7350 S. Rainbow Blvd. to return a movie to a storefront kiosk about 10:20 a.m. He left his son in the sport-utility vehicle with the engine running, Las Vegas police said. He was 10 to 15 feet from the vehicle when a woman hopped behind the wheel and sped away, officer Bill Cassell said. A Salvation Army bell ringer, who asked to be identified only as Fitzgerald, saw the vehicle zip by with the father running along the driver's side. .

This is the equivalent of powering more than 400 households, or taking more than 200 cars off the road for a year. Design aspects of the San Francisco building include a natural ventilation system with operable windows that dramatically reduces energy consumption. The use of natural ventilation eliminates the need of mechanical ventilation in more than 70% of the tower's area. This 18-story structure uses about 30% less energy than traditional high-rise buildings. Both buildings are designed to conserve natural resources, take advantage of the equable climate, minimize waste, and create a healthy and productive work environment for all its tenants. Bears take a breather
Warrens Buffetts move to take over tax-exempt insurance businesses from mono-lines is a move almost everyone likes. We reaffirmed last week that stocks were in a confirmed bear market. We also categorically stated that a pullback rally within the larger downtrend was overdue and should be used solely to lighten up on long-only exposures. Stocks played to script this week notching up modest gains despite the heightened volatility that usually accompanies an options expiration week. Stocks gained sharply mid-week following Warren Buffett's bailout plan for the mono-lines and a narrower-than-expected trade deficit. But comments from Ben Bernanke and a remarkably weak consumer sentiment survey spoiled the party. The front-line indexes closed out the week with a respectable 0.5%-1.5% gain.
Phillies' Eaton shelled; says he has bad back
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Adam Eaton remains the front-runner for the fifth spot in the Phillies' rotation. But his hold is slipping. Eaton allowed five hits, four runs and one home run in two innings during yesterday's rain-shortened 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Bright House Field. In two starts this spring, Eaton is 0-2 with a 15.75 ERA. His shaky start follows a miserable 2007, when he went 10-10 with a 6.29 ERA in 30 starts - an effort so poor that manager Charlie Manuel removed him and his three-year, $24.5 million contract from the postseason roster. "I still need to produce to gain that trust back that they put into me last year," Eaton said. "They can't be half as frustrated as I am in myself. I'm frustrated, so they have to be frustrated as well." Eaton revealed yesterday that he has a lower-back injury, an issue he said affected his performance on the mound.
DATS outrageous
Questions over safety are being raised after city police charged a DATS driver with sexually assaulting a disabled woman who functions at the level of a 10-year-old. The woman alleges that once in late December and once in late January a Disabled Adult Transit Service driver sexually assaulted her in a DATS minivan. Police have charged a 44-year-old man with two counts each of sexual assault and an indecent act, and one count of sexual exploitation of a person with a disability. Transportation systems can sometimes leave disabled women more vulnerable, says the executive director of the Alberta Committee of Citizens with Disabilities. "We've done research papers here on women with disabilities and the incidents of abuse and one of the things that did come up was the transportation system and how it can increase the vulnerability in some cases," said Beverley Matthiessen.
City district, ex-chief set to move on
John Q. Porter committed any criminal act. In fact, a number of documents discovered in the possession of the school district tended to exculpate or explain away most of the allegations made against Dr. Porter by the board," Prater said. Prater added that he was surprised that investigators were "very easily" able to obtain documents that exonerated Porter. But the 278-page report issued by the district attorney's office doesn't leave its subjects unblemished. The revelation of internal financial processes is prompting the district to review all of its policies and procedures, and some school district employees and board members who were interviewed were critical of Porter's behavior while he was superintendent. The report from Prater's office covers 15 allegations. Prater said possible criminal acts that could have applied were fraud and other "white collar-type crimes." Retired U.S.
