| Live Webcast: Top Trends Impacting Two-Factor Authentication
2008 brings with it new IT security challenges and issues that network and systems administrators should be aware of. Utilizing a 2008 survey of IT professionals from leading enterprises, this Webcast will summarize the top security issues which network security professionals should be prepared to face in 2008. An overwhelming 70% of respondents believe that usernames and passwords do not provide an adequate level of security for sensitive information. Regulatory legislation and agencies such as FFIEC, HIPPA, GLB also echo this perspective. One strategy for meeting today's stringent data security standards is the use of strong, two-factor authentication, but a number of barriers can stand in the way of a successful implementation. To learn what those obstacles are -- and how to sidestep them -- join this Webcast, with live Q&A, hosted by James Hilliard, moderator for TechRepublic, and featuring Positive Networks' CTO Steve Dispensa and Chief Privacy Advocate Evan Conway.
Turn on the charm -- get what you want
Jay was about to leave for a canoeing trip, and Val sat on the floor with him for hours, poring over maps of Canada as if she had never seen anything so completely riveting in her life. She was only 13 at the time, but she sure knew how to flirt. When Jay pronounced her "really neat," my mother said to me quietly, "See? If you want to get a boy's attention, be fascinated by whatever fascinates him." (This was the 50s, after all.) 4. The Abigail technique. My daughter Abigail looks at a young man she's interested in with eyes that appreciate his entire face. She smiles, looks down for a moment, then looks up and locks in again with her eyes. She becomes extraordinarily animated, particularly in response to something he might have said. And she's always genuine. The bottom line is that she makes a guy feel better about himself when he's with her than he does when he's without her.

Gotta love the bump -- to a better grade of service
They worked the system. To unlock the secrets of free or discounted upgrades for planes, hotel rooms, rental cars and cruise cabins, we went to industry experts and frequent travelers. Here are their tips. AIRLINE UPGRADES Use the upgrade certificates airlines send you for being a frequent flier, or ask friends holding transferable coupons with looming expiration dates if you can take them off their hands. Though airlines most frequently award their elite passengers upgrades, it never hurts to be the first in line at the gate counter and inquire about a bump in class. (Ask the gate representative, not the check-in agent, who does not control domestic first-class seating assignments.) Alternately, don't be the first to board; hang back in case economy seats are needed and there is extra space in first class -- you just might be offered that elite seat.
late November
The Giants looked hot a month ago, but now have delivered two straight lethargic performances, and Eli Manning seems to be reverting to being a true freshman at Mississippi. TMQ loves Tiki Barber, TTNY ("The Toast of New York"), but at this point it's clear his announcement of a year-end retirement has become a distraction. For the last few weeks, the national media have been all over Tiki and his twin Ronde. For Ronde that's OK, distractions don't matter much when your club is 3-7 and rebuilding. But Jersey/A is in a playoff push. Here's my proposal: Tiki, stop doing media for the rest of the year. Concentrate on the game. Prove that you're all about the team, not yourself. It will help the Giants, and further burnish your reputation. Play of the game: Maurice Jones-Drew walking into the end zone standing up for an untouched touchdown, making it Jaguars 23, Giants 10 in the fourth quarter and causing your columnist to close the light for bed.

Artesia company buys Western Chrysler
Artesia's Tate Branch Dodge Chrysler Jeep on Monday bought Western Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Hobbs. Tate Branch, 46, said the company retained about 90 percent of the roughly 30 employees at the Hobbs dealership on 4123 Lovington Highway. Branch did not purchase the other Western dealerships — Western Honda and Western Motor — in Hobbs. Western Chrysler had been owned by Barbara Cecil of Hobbs. Branch said the Hobbs dealership had called him and asked if he had any interest in owning the dealership. At first he was hesitant, Branch said, because of having his hands full at the Artesia dealership. But then a little later Chrysler also called him and suggested he proceed with it. “One thing led to another and then all these doors started opening and things just started falling in place," Branch said.

Rusty remake fails to fire
Bale plays Dan Evans, an impoverished rancher who volunteers to join a posse of mercenaries and bounty hunters escorting a captured bandit, desperado Ben Wade, to justice. Crowe plays the bad guy, and those who prefer him in more upright, law-abiding roles may want to stick with American Gangster. The original 3:10 to Yuma appeared in 1957, directed by Delmer Daves, who was something of a western specialist. And whatever one thinks of the '50s, they were probably the greatest decade for Hollywood westerns. The mood of the times -- the Cold War, fear of communism, McCarthyist witch-hunts, not to mention a hot war in Korea -- seemed suited to the simplistic moral conflicts of the classic western formula. Daves made Broken Arrow for Fox in 1950, with James Stewart and Jeff Chandler, and Jubal, a western version of Othello, with Glenn Ford, in 1956.
