Univision Battle With Televisa Places Programs in Jeopardy

Jerrold Perenchio, and the late Emilio Azcarraga Milmo, who felt he got a bad deal in 1992 when the two men negotiated the original contract. If the Mexican company, Grupo Televisa, wins and pulls its programming, Univisions enterprise value could be chopped by more than $1 billion.

The lawsuit centers on a program license agreement, or PLA, between Televisa, the dominant broadcaster in Mexico, and L.A.s Univision, the dominant Spanish-language TV network in the U.S. and owner of KMEX-TV (Channel 34) in Westchester. The agreement gives Univision the exclusive right to air Televisa shows in the United States.

If Televisa were allowed to pull its popular Spanish-language telenovela programs from Univision, the company says it could sell the shows to other groups for much more money.

K.J. gets overlooked, but shouldn't

And since Don's a big baseball fan and all, he's even offering a 20-percent spring-training/Braves-MIB discount on used CDs for one week starting today. Just mention the code DOB to the person behind the register. No kidding.

See ya at the record store. Or in Orlando. Or on the blog. All good.

Oh, and if you haven't heard the new North Mississippi All-Stars CD, it's quite greasy and rockin' — and very good. Some mighty fine releases the past few weeks, including albums by Bob Mould, Drive-By Truckers, Whigs, Selmanaires, Anna Kramer and the Lost Cause, and Sheryl Crow (yes, I'll admit I like it, and not just because she's, well, mighty fine).

"OUT HERE IN THE MIDDLE" by James McMurtry

They broke into your car last night, took the stereo

Now you say you don't know why you even live there anymore

The garage man didn't see a thing, so you guess it was an inside job

You made a reservation, a table for three

They said you'd have to wait, somebody must have bribed the maitre'd

Boss got mad and he blamed it all on you

Food was bad and the deal fell through

Well out here in the middle you can park it on the street

Step up to the counter, you nearly always get a seat

Nobody steals.

Himachal Pradesh

Similarly, the IGMC will get another sophisticated equipment that will help in destroying certain components of the blood like lymphocytes, which could prove harmful in a particular ailment.

NACO will also provide a mobile van fitted with refrigerator and provisions for blood donation. This will be of great help while conducting blood donation camps in the town or suburbs, said officials. The bank will also be provided with the latest couches for use during donation.

The blood bank at the IGMC caters to the requirement of not only local government hospitals, which despite having their bank, depend heavily on the IGMC, but at the same time there is demand for blood from out station. The IGMCs demand for blood has gone up ever since the start of the open heart surgery, which normally has a requirement of up to eight units.

RBA considered 0.5pc rates hike

It has been revealed the Reserve Bank considered a bigger increase in official interest rates than the one delivered a fortnight ago.

The central bank has released the minutes of this month's board meeting, which decided to raise official interest rates.

The minutes underscore the concern over inflation and reveal that debate in the meeting focused on whether the interest rate increase should have been 0.5 per cent, rather than the 0.25 per cent ultimately delivered.

Earlier today, assistant governor at the bank Malcolm Edey told an economics conference in Sydney there remained a striking contrast between an easing world economy and robust domestic conditions.

"We're getting a fairly consistent picture of strong growth, at least up to the September quarter," he said.

Dollar Thrifty Reports Slow Finish to 2007

TULSA, Okla. — Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group recently reported that its estimated earnings from 2007 came in lower than expectations. The company pointed to an overall industry decline as a major factor in the downswing. "In the fourth quarter, we experienced progressively weaker industry demand in the travel market, excess fleet capacity in the industry and a weakening used-car market," explained Gary Paxton, president and chief executive officer of Dollar Thrifty. "The demand over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays was much weaker than we had originally expected," Paxton continued. "Lower than expected revenue drivers including a decline in consumer demand and lower revenue per day impacted fourth-quarter results by $0.40 to $0.45 per diluted share versus previous guidance." According to executives, lower consumer demand and disorderly vehicle distribution by the company's primary fleet supplier affected fleet financial results by $0.15 per diluted share. "This is in addition to the $0.15 per diluted share impact previously disclosed related to vehicle shipping disruptions in the September/October time frame," officials indicated. Moreover, vehicle depreciation costs from increased disposal losses (due to a weaker used-vehicle market) came in at $0.10 per diluted share. The company also indicated that its non-GAAP earnings per diluted share for the year were between $0.90 to $0.95.

Victoria Police step up public order blitz with New York model

THE police war on drunken louts polluting Melbourne's CBD has stepped up with a New York-style crime blitz to operate every weekend.

Police command today unveiled their latest attack to curb assaults and unruly behaviour.

This includes:

A POLICE nerve centre to quickly dispatch officers to crime hot spots every weekend from tomorrow as trouble brews.

A MOBILE command post truck carrying up to 50 officers and equipped with computers, plasma TVs and CCTV to be stationed at the corner of Swanston and Flinders streets on Saturday and Sunday nights.

UNDERCOVER officers infiltrating venues to detect troublemakers and liquor law breaches.

The move follows concern over a surge of assaults in the city and an explosion of 24-hour liquor licences allowing unfettered access to alcohol.
