Residents strip down inn's business
OCEANSIDE, Ore. -- One young mother from Tillamook gathers her five children and drives two scenic miles to go beachcombing at a quaint hideaway off U.S. Highway 101.Another Tillamook mother slips into a black gown and drives to the same town to dance at the only exotic club on the northern Oregon coast -- the Anchor Inn and Grill. They, along with strip-club patrons, visiting families, longtime residents and retirees, mix it up in this quiet community. Dependent on vacation rentals and tourists, pint-size Oceanside -- population 326 -- sustains one cafe, one coffee shop, one nude adult entertainment venue and lots of feuding citizens. For the past three years, a dispute over growth and development has divided the community. Angry neighbors boycotted the Anchor because it expanded. Then, nearly broke, another owner of the Anchor brought in strippers in December as a last resort. Now a state land-use board is investigating the matter.

On the back wall of a bar on Raeford Road, behind a pool table, hangs an American flag with note cards placed carefully along the white stripes. Each card bears the name of a soldier who used to be a regular but is now in Iraq or Afghanistan. The bar, Bourbon Street East, opened about 18 months ago. Since then, there has never been a time when all of Fort Bragg’s soldiers were home at once. These days, though, the post is about as close to empty as it has ever been. Half of Fort Bragg’s 48,000 troops are overseas. All four 82nd Airborne Division brigade combat teams are gone. And that’s a huge subtraction from Fayetteville’s social scene. Soldiers have been a big part of the city’s nightlife since the post boomed in World War II.

Dollar Thrifty Hits a Big Pothole
The problems of the car rental business are deepening. On Feb. 4, Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group (DTG) shares plunged 35% after the firm nearly cutting in half its expectations for 2007 profits. Dollar Thrifty's news jolted the industry, raising worries that U.S. consumers are cutting back on their travel spending. Dollar Thrifty's larger rivals, Hertz Global Holdings (HTZ) and Avis Budget Group (CAR), at one point on Feb. 4 had fallen as much as 7% and almost 14% respectively. Fears of a recession add to the difficulties for car rental firms, already battling it out in a brutal business. The car rental industry's problems are similar to those of the airline industry, which has been notoriously tough on investors. Both are highly competitive industries with high fixed costs, so they find it tough to squeeze out profits on a regular basis.
Wisconsin Sports Spectacular
I haven't seen many Pro Bowl trip packages to Hawaii advertised by travel agents lately. That's because they don't really exist. Every time I have seen the Pro Bowl, there are a lot of empty seats. It's just not a good game for the reasons mentioned above. That's why there isn't any juice to it, and then you take the star power out of it? That really makes it irrelevant. I think that they should just name the team, and not bother with playing the game. Name the players that made the team, give them their bonus checks and move on. The game is pointless for the players and the fans. There isn't an AP All-American game for the college players as far as I know. So the system of just naming the Pro Bowlers and not actually having a Pro Bowl would be a lot like that. If they are going to keep the game, there are 2 things I think they should do to improve it.

All sides in the conflict seem to be united in one respect – silencing the media (Yahoo! News, 02/03/08). This week the government closed down three radio stations (Reporters Sans Frontiers, 02/03/08), consequently raiding offices and beating up journalists. Such events are not uncommon in the country where nine journalists in total have been killed and 50 have fled since February 2007 (Amnesty International, 02/03/08). Pohamba urges restraint (The Namibia, 03/03/08) Namibia's President Hifikepunye Pohamba asked supporters to refrain from violence as a heated bi-elections heave into view. The last round of elections were called off when the opposition objected to 54 names on the voters' roll.
SUBJECT: RE: Shorting continues Posted By: cleareye
I don't doubt your data, but could you tell me where it comes from. Is there a web-site that issues this sort of data?I was looking at the shorting history you provided and have summarized it below.I'm not sure that the shorters have seen a big payday yet.In my mind the share price is just as likely to go up 10 cents as down 10 cents. It is possible that the shorters could count on covering through being involved in a financing. That is always the cynical viewpoint. Unless they havea financinglocked up, I think that it's pretty risky considering the level of the share price, the potential upside and the thin-trading. It would be hard to cover a 1.3 million share short positionconsidering thattoday's volume was 32,000.Here's to a few big-news days. I hope the new CEO has theguts to wait and get a better share price before financing.
